Terms of Use
Using eteyo
eteyo is a messaging app. It connects people over Bluetooth mesh nearby and through public place channels delivered by independent relays. By using eteyo you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
You must be old enough to agree to these terms where you live, and at least the minimum age shown for eteyo in the App Store.
Your content, your responsibility
You are responsible for what you send. Messages, photos and anything else you share come from you. Do not share anything you do not have the right to share.
What is not allowed
Do not use eteyo to:
- sexually exploit or endanger children in any way
- threaten, harass, stalk or bully anyone, or promote hatred or violence
- share sexual or graphic content involving people who have not agreed to it
- share someone's private information to expose or harm them
- send spam, scams, malware or deceptive links
- break the law, or help others do so
- pretend to be someone else to mislead people
How eteyo works
eteyo has no accounts and no central message server. Messages are carried by nearby devices and, for place channels and online delivery, by independent relays that we do not run. Anyone in a public channel can read it.
Because of this, we cannot read, edit, recall or delete your messages or anyone else's. Deleting a message on your device does not remove copies held elsewhere.
Blocking and reporting
You can block anyone at any time: open their profile, or press and hold one of their messages.
You can report content: press and hold a message from someone else and choose Report message. A report contains only what you choose to include. It is sent by email, so we can see your email address.
We review the reports we receive and, where we can, act on them. Because eteyo has no accounts or central servers, we cannot ban a person from the network or remove messages from other devices or relays. We may update the app to limit the spread of harmful content.
Serious harm
We take reports of child sexual exploitation and credible threats of violence seriously. Where the law requires it, or where someone may be in danger, we may share information from a report with the authorities.
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services. eteyo is not an emergency service.
Privacy
How eteyo handles your data is described in the Privacy Policy and in Settings under Privacy. eteyo does not use advertising or tracking.
No guarantees
eteyo is provided as is, without promises that it will always be available, reliable or error free. Bluetooth and internet connections can fail, and messages can be delayed or lost. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for content posted by others or for losses that result from using the app.
Open source and third parties
eteyo is built on bitchat, an open-source project released under the Unlicense, and uses third-party software and independent relays. eteyo is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the bitchat project. Their own terms and policies apply to what they provide.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When a change matters, the app asks you to review it again. If you keep using eteyo, you accept the current terms.
