Report a message or a person
- Press and hold a message from someone else and choose Report message, or open their profile and choose Report person.
- Pick a reason and the messages you want to include. You see exactly what will be sent before it leaves your phone.
- The report is sent by email, so we can see your email address. We review the reports we receive.
- eteyo has no accounts or central servers, so we cannot remove messages from other devices or relays, or ban someone from the network. Blocking is the quickest way to stop seeing someone: open their profile or press and hold a message and choose Block person.
- To avoid certain words, use Hidden words (Settings → Safety). Messages from other people that contain a word you choose are hidden on your phone behind a Show button, and their text stays out of notifications. The sender is not told and other people still see the message. Nothing is hidden until you add a word.
If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services. eteyo is not an emergency service.
Common questions
It says “Waiting for your location…”
Allow location access while using the app in iOS Settings, and make sure Location Services is on. eteyo only uses your location on your device to work out which place channels you can join.
Nearby chat isn’t working
Turn on Bluetooth and allow eteyo to use it in iOS Settings. Bluetooth mesh needs other eteyo users within radio range.
How do I turn Tor or internet delivery off?
Open Settings in the app. Internet delivery turns relay-based features off entirely; Use Tor controls whether relay connections go through Tor. Turning Tor off lets relays see your IP address.
How do I delete my data?
Settings → Privacy → Clear chat history removes conversations from your device. Emergency wipe also removes your identity keys, media and preferences. Neither can remove copies on other people’s devices or on independent relays.
